Advocate Health embeds Lind AI in the EHR for cancer-trial matching

Charlotte-based Advocate Health is putting clinician-guided AI directly into its electronic health record to automate cancer-trial screening — backed by retrospective validation at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and a first prospective trial already running.

Advocate Health announced a partnership with Lind to improve how cancer patients are screened for and matched to clinical trials. The platform sits inside the EHR — Lind works alongside clinicians (not instead of them), and clinicians retain oversight before any patient is enrolled.

Validation

A retrospective study at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist's NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center reviewed more than 1,700 individual eligibility criteria. Lind's matching showed 94% agreement with clinical reviewers and reduced the time required for eligibility assessments from up to an hour per patient to minutes.

Results are slated for publication in JCO Oncology Practice with an ASCO presentation referenced in the announcement.

A first prospective trial is already underway

Advocate has already launched its first prospective trial to test whether embedding Lind into the EHR increases real-world screening volumes and enrollment, rather than just retrospective agreement with reviewers.

Scale this sits inside

  • ~1 million patients screened for cancer by Advocate in 2025
  • 130+ clinics across Wisconsin, Illinois, North Carolina, and Georgia
  • 1,500+ active cancer clinical trials across more than 50 sites of care

Why this matters for Charlotte

The announcement is datelined Charlotte and the validating work runs through the North Carolina academic core. It is one of the most concrete, measurable AI deployments inside a major health system in the region during this window — a sign that the Charlotte system is moving past “AI strategy” messaging into embedded operational use cases with workflow intent.
